The Tasteman™ enters the new millenium.... finally

The Tasteman™ - that well-respected and widely read bastion of information on activities in the Gilbertson Lab - has finally been laid to rest. I have to say it is long past due. The time it took to publish and distribute this thrice yearly publication pulled us away from our real duties of solving basic scientific questions. We basically became a slave to doing outrageous and outlandish things in order to have SOMETHING to write about. It's a peaceful death, however. With the last Tasteman™ having been published in July 2007, it is clear that this periodical has died in its sleep.

We do appreciate the literally dozens of subscribers that have stayed with us, lo these may years. Of course, we will keep your identity secret - we understand the embarrassment it would cause. And to the hundreds and hundreds who managed to accidentally stumble onto the Tasteman™ while Googling who-knows-what late at night, we hope you enjoyed the visit (we know who you are thanks to the power of Google Analytics!). Amazingly, the Tasteman™ is our most often visited page in the lab's website despite its irregular and infrequent publication schedule.

Because we at the Tasteman™ have been accused of "living in the '80s, man" with our online periodical, we have decided not to do away with it altogether, but allow it to fester in this new form, the omnipresent blog. We are still behind the times probably, just not so far behind.

Will the blog last? Will anyone read it? Will anyone take the time to comment? I don't know for sure. But the Tasteman™ will sit here in its 1 gig area of free cyberspace waiting for the next generation of people to stumble upon it late at night while we in the lab continue to try and do science, get funded and enjoy ourselves while we do so.
